Dear Parents,
The 4th, 5th, and 6th grades took a trip to downtown Santa Barbara today for the Santa Barbara Symphony’s performance about the life of Classical composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. There were about 1500 students from various county schools in attendance. Our students have always shown how well they carry themselves both in attire and in discipline when in public, and today was no exception. Many thanks to our drivers Heather Meister, Deb McCarty, Susan Pate, and Tara Gay!
This week’s topics of study included the following: in Math we completed our unit on factors and took a test; in Science we continued our Earth Science unit (particularly the study of rock formation); in English we continued our study of punctuation and capitalization; in Social Studies we continued our unit on the events that led to the American Revolution (test next Tuesday); and we began reading a short story entitled And Then What Happened, Paul Revere?
In Science, we have been studying the Earth with regards to its formation, composition, layers, and so forth. The students will individually create three-dimensional models showing the four layers of the Earth. Instructions and a rubric were passed out yesterday. The due date is Wednesday, February 22.
Our Student Learning Expectation (SLE) for this week was E.4 – Responsible citizens who understand the implications of local and global events. Congratulations to Ariana Ponce-Ruiz for being the recipient of this week’s SLE award!
Finally, here are a couple of quick notes:
-Our class will have a Valentine’s Party on the 14th at 2:30. If you are helping with the setup, the students will be silently reading starting at 2:15 so we can set up then. I’m going to ask that if students bring Valentines to pass out that they bring one for everyone (don’t want anyone getting left out of the fun!).
-There is a mandatory parent meeting next Wednesday evening (February 15) here at OLMCS at 7pm.
-There will be no school on Friday the 17th (teacher in-service) nor on Monday the 20th (Presidents Day).
Have a great weekend! May the Lord bless you.
